The Country That Inhabits Me‘ is a chapbook in which Valéria Lourenço explores, with lyrical concision, the difficult journey of her personal history alongside collective socio-economic injustices, while also celebrating the bonds, resilience, and shared intimacies of Afro-descendant communities in Brazil.

Valéria was born in Rio de Janeiro and is a literature teacher in Ceará. She has published the poetry books Aya’ba (2021) and Penalva (2018), as well as short stories in Cadernos Negros 36, 37, and 42 (2013, 2014, and 2018).
